What is the Nap-Machine?
Power-Nap is also now available in a small, stand-alone, light-weight completely portable device called the Power-Nap Nap-Machine, and is available for sale on the website. The self-contained, palm-sized Power-Nap Nap-Machine has no moving parts and comes complete with a comfortable strap to wear around your neck if you want, a pair of stereo ear-buds, and the standard AAA battery, so it's ready to work, right out of the box, just press the button and go to sleep. Can I replace the battery in the Nap-Machine?
Yes, the standard AAA battery is easily changed. The device is relatively low power, lasting quite a while on just one tiny AAA battery, but when its time to change it, you can do so. On the back side of the Nap-Machine (the side without the buttons), at the thicker end, just below the picture of the smiling couple, you'll notice a small opening in the plastic case. Using a small screw driver or the end of a paper-clip, insert it gently into that opening and carefully push down slowly. The top of the plastic case will pop open, revealing the battery, which you can slide out and replace. Be sure that the positive side of the new battery (with the plus sign "+") goes into the side of the nap machine marked with the "+" sign on the inside of the plastic case (if you're holding the nap machine with the buttons facing towards you and the battery at the top, the "+" (positive side) is on the left. After replacing the battery, the plastic cover can be snapped back in place by inserting the side with green label in first and then pushing down on the blue labelled top edge.

Do I have to use headphones, and do they have to be Stereo?
Yes, using STEREO headphones (separate sounds for left and right ears) is absolutely essential, because the benefits of the Power-Nap technology only work when the specific sounds designed for the left ear and right ear are kept separate. If you order the Nap-Machine, it comes complete with the correct Stereo ear-buds you need. Or, you can use your own, comfortable closed-ear stereo headphones with it or with the Power-Nap CD. Avoid models that have independent volume controls for each ear, so that the stereo effects of the recording are not compromised. If you're not sure if your headphones are stereo, ask someone who can identify stereo headphones by the design of the connector. You have be able to hear the Power-Nap sound waves in both ears for the effect to work.

Can I use my Power-Nap while reading or watching TV?
Ensure that when you use the Power-Nap recordings, you are in an environment where you can actually rest. Do not attempt to use them where there are excessive distractions, while you are reading or watching TV, and do not think about a personal or business problem while you are Power-Napping: This is your time to rest, relax, and rejuvenate! While reclining, lying, or sitting comfortably, simply close your eyes, listen to Power-Nap and let your mind wander. Do nothing else.

What volume setting works best?
Set the volume to a level slightly higher than you would normally use for music-listening. You want to ensure that the only stimulus your mind has is the sound waves coming in through your ears, though be sure it is not any louder than is comfortable for you.

Will I get the effects just by listening?
Power-Nap is a little bit like hypnotism -- you can resist it, or you can relax and let it work for you. In order for Power-Nap to work best, you should be a willing participant in the napping process. Listen actively and concentrate on the waterfall sounds. Truly focus your mind on the sounds that are coming in through your ears. Your mind will start to wander - this is normal - surrender to the recording and let it do its job. It will wake you gently and gradually when it's finished resting you.

Will I fall asleep?
You may, but do not be surprised if you do not actually "fall asleep." You may be aware throughout the process that you are listening to a recording. This is fine. When the recording is finished and you "wake up" you will still enjoy the benefits of a long, deep, restful sleep even if you felt you were not "snoozing" while the recording played!

What if I hear skips on my disk?
There should be no skips on your Power-Nap CD. If you’re hearing skips, they’re probably due to static build-up or dirt on the disk. In this happens, please wipe the disk gently with a clean, soft, damp cotton cloth (avoid tissue paper as it can actually scratch a CD). To clean a CD, wipe softly from the center of the disk to the outer edge – avoid wiping around in a circular fashion. CD's are hard to hurt, so don't be too concerned about damaging it by cleaning.

If cleaning the disk does not help, please check the headphones, or try another set of stereo headphones. Also, try using a different CD player, or see if the same problem happens with a different CD. In many years of our production there has never been a defective Power-Nap CD, so please check everything else before reporting a suspected damaged disk.

Can I copy my Power-Nap to my iPod or MP3 player?
Of course you can try to copy the CD to a portable music player, but the performance results will be poor at best. This is because the rencoding process that iPod & MP3 music players use to compress sound files cuts off the high and low frequencies that make Power-Nap effective.

What makes electronic portable music players attractive is that you can put a LOT of music in a SMALL space. The way these music players do this is by cutting off all the lowest tones, all the highest tones, and then removing many very short bits of sound from every second of the recording (this is called "compression"). iPod or MP3 compression may not normally be noticeable because those low and high tones, as well as short duration details don't contain any special information in music, so when they are changed or missing, it makes little or no difference to the ear.

However, the Power-Nap recordings are very large, and intricately detailed, with continuous high and low tone audio information at very precise intervals. This precision and quality is essential to help your brain sync up with the recording. Attempting to transfer the Power-Nap recording to a digital file such as an MP3, an iPod, or similar player, literally removes or changes many of the essential, required frequencies and detail that make Power-Nap work, which can leave you with a recording of some scratchy sounding static, which doesn't have any effect.

For best results, use the original Power-Nap CD on a good quality CD player or the Power-Nap Nap-Machine recording with good quality headphones with good bass (low tone) response.
